Stroller Strides of St. Louis

Stroller Strides of St. Louis is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies.  It includes power walking and intervals of body toning using exercise tubing and the stroller.  Stroller Strides is taught by certified instructors that are also mommies.  It’s a great workout for any level of exerciser.

All you need to get started is you, your baby and a stroller that’s not prone to tipping.  We suggest you arrive 10 minutes before the start time of class and bring water, a hat/sunscreen for you and your baby and a mat or towel for ground exercises.

In addition to Stroller Strides class, we also offer Luna Mom’s club each week, community offerings and a much needed moms night out once a month!  Check out our classes, your first class is always FREE!

Our website can answer most of your questions at:  www.strollerstrides.net/westcounty or at:  sarahk@strollerstrides.net

Doula Services in Mid-Missouri Region

Gentle Birth Support got its start in 1996 with one of the first DONA-approved doula training courses at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.  By that time, I had had three boys already - two births at hospitals in Cincinnati, OH and La Crosse, WI, and one homebirth in St. Peters, MO.  La Leche League had been a wonderful source of information and support, and I was working on my LLLeadership Application.  I attended the births of friends after that, and had one miscarriage and two more homebirths of my own.  Three years ago I began working as a doula professionally - hurray!  In July 2007 I attended an ALACE doula training in Rolla, and will have certification by summer 2008.  I am also a certified instructor with iCare Childbirth Classes.  I live in Franklin County and travel up to 60 miles in any direction to serve the families I work with.  Please let me know if I can help you as you research and explore your options for birth and parenting!

Birth doula

Having just returned from the premier of the Ricki Lake documentary, “The Business of Being Born”, I am even more passionate about supporting local moms in birthing their babies. It has always been an honor and blessing to serve the St. Louis community in this special way. I have been attending births for over 20 years and still am in awe at the miracle that unfolds and the power of our bodies. Currently, I serve as President of Doulas of Greater St. Louis, St. Louis’ local doula group. Specialty Pharmacy of St. Louis

Since the 1960’s most pharmacies dispense manufactured dosage forms. Most of these mass-produced medicines have limited strengths and dosages, which do not quite fit the needs of many patients. At Specialty Pharmacy of St. Louis, we strive to meet the patient’s unique needs through customized medications. With a physician’s consent, a compounding pharmacist can change the strength of a medication, alter its form to make it easier for the patient to ingest, or add flavor to make it more palatable.

Specialty Pharmacy of St. Louis is online at http://www.custommedications.com/. This is the pharmacy that constructed a special vitamin that I take during my pregnancy to treat MTHFR. They also make special lozenges to treat nausea during pregnancy. This is a family-run business and I was impressed to find that the owner works behind the counter.

A free standing birth center – State licensed

“Because peace on earth begins with birth”

The Birth Center Difference
“Few innovations in health service promise lower cost, greater availability, and a high degree of satisfaction and safety. Birth centers offer a safe and acceptable alternative to hospital confinement for selected pregnant women.”
The New England Journal of Medicine – Study on U.S. free standing birth centers, 1989

Laurel Walter, MD, Family Physician and Medical Director
As a mother of four, I know that giving birth is one of life’s most amazing, intense, and empowering experiences. When our family experienced the midwifery model of care, we found that it was the “gold standard” for low risk women. We greatly valued the support, education, encouragement, and continuity of care for the childbearing year and beyond. The birth center is the heart and the home of midwifery care, offering safe and sensitive care in a home-like setting.
Dr. Walter has helped hundereds of mothers and their babies achieve a gentle birth. She champions the right of families to make their own best choices concerning their maternity care.

Kim James, Childbirth Educator and Doula
Over the past 20 years Kim has assisted hundreds of women in giving birth naturally, confidently, and safely, in a variety of settings. Through childbirth classes, expectant families learn to develop trust in their bodies, in the wisdom of the birth process, and in their abilities to make wise choices. Kim is also a licensed massage therapist with a gift for helping pregnant women with her loving touch.

Dee Dee Folkerts, Childbirth Educator and Doula
Dee Dee has provided birthing women with warm, personal support as a doula in the hospital, birth center and home settings for over eight years. Deedee teaches our prenatal belly dancing class and is the mother of two daughters.

“My goal is to deliver obstetric and gynecological care that incorporates modern medical approaches with alternative therapies
in an environment of mutual respect, education and understanding.”

Hold the epidural, hold the IV set ups - natural deliveries don’t upset us.
In our opinion, modern obstetrics is here to protect those babies that would have been injured 100 years ago. We should do our best to avoid creating difficulties in an otherwise normal labor.

Our whole staff provides comprehensive prenatal care from preconception through delivery. We want to make birth a meaningful
experience for the couple. We give the mom as much control as possible. We work extensively with Doula’s. We feel comfortable with the Bradley Methods and Lamaze. Birthing plans are welcome.
